It's a kid's life!

13-year-old Jack Dunn knows exactly what to do this weekend

SwindonWeb's kids reporter Jack Dunn
Hello, I’m Jack aged 13.

As most teenagers and children, I try to do a lot of new things and go out and see new places. So I have a Top 10 of things to do for kids and teens in Swindon!

I’ll put on my best cheesy radio DJ voice as we find out what’s at number 10…

10. The Old Town Museum

Old Town Museum Swindon
The Old Town museum and art gallery is good as part of a fun day out, or if you have half an hour to spare.
It has fascinating exhibits including an Egyptian mummy of a 12-year-old boy. This museum has lots to get the whole family interested!

9. The Swindon Libraries

Libraries in Swindon
Libraries are perfect when you’re bored. Go in there and get a good book, and if you’re not a book worm, don’t worry they have other things there too. You can use the free computers, or take out a game, DVD or CD.

8. Lydiard Park & House

Lydiard House in Swindon
Lydiard Park is brilliant for the whole family; the park features a playground, a cafe, and massive open areas, brilliant for playing in the summer. The house is also very interesting, and quite often they have events there too, so check our events section, and their website to see what’s coming up.

Another good park is Coate Water (includes a playground, and a small café)

7. Swindon Karting

Karting in Swindon
This is really fun. You get your own go kart, and you race around a track! Simple but so fun. For all of those who know a lot about cars – every cart has 9hp stroke horse power. You get an adrenaline rush from doing this, everyone looking to try something different and exciting – this is your place!

6. Ice Skating

Ice skating in Swindon
Ice Skating is very exciting, once you get used to it! When you get used to it you can start to think of fun games to play with friends, or if you like dancing, any new dance moves! There are different sessions on during the day, such as the family session and even an ice disco for teenagers.

5. The Oasis Lagoon Pool

Oasis Leisure Centre in Swindon
The Oasis is really cool for when you are bored. My favourite things at the Oasis swimming pool are the new blue slide that goes over the top of the swimming pool, the waves and the really cool pirate ship bucket! It fills up with water until it suddenly drops down on you; it is a really cool experience.

If you don’t feel like playing while you swim, you can also go to these swimming pools that don’t have slides, waves and other features.

4. Jolly Roger

Jolly Roger Adventure in Swindon
Jolly Roger is a soft play area, it has a bouncy castle, death slide, ball pits, bridges, and anything you need to make you feel like Indiana Jones or James Bond!
If you don’t feel like going to Jolly Roger, go to one of these other soft play areas.

Space Adventure – 01793 422 033

3. Laser Quest

Laser Quest in Swindon
Laser Quest is a laser tag game; you get padded up with sensors and a gun, then walk into the arena and shoot anyone who isn’t on your team! The dark room, fluorescent strips on the walls and smoke along the floor gives it an amazing atmosphere. There a hiding places, a maze, lots of platforms and more to make it even better! It has an arcade, and an internet café especially for high speed online gaming too.

2. Empire Cinema (Greenbridge) / Cineworld Cinema (Shaw Ridge)

Empire Cinema in Swindon
There is nothing too different between these cinemas. They both have all the latest movies playing for around the same price, and they both sell sweets, popcorn, drink and anything else you’d want. They both even have a selection of arcade games. Also both cinemas have a film on Saturday mornings for only £1.

They are all family films and not usually really old films either!

1. Tenpin

Ten Pin bowling in Swindon
Tenpin is probably the best place to go when you’re bored in Swindon. Not only can you have a go at bowling, you can also play in the arcade, play pool, eat food and have a go at Cosmic Bowling; in cosmic bowling, it is the same as bowling but with flashing lights, music and more.
